Race 7 - Karapiro Race Series 15 April 2012
Race 6 - Karapiro Race Series 25 March 2012
Race 6 was held today with a variety of conditions being experienced within the one race.
We opted for a mass start with finish times only being recorded, as the steady rain would have made it almost impossible to write down lap times on soggy paper. Apologies for this. Weather permitting, next time we will attempt to provide the full set of results.
Fastest time was posted by Sam Newlands while the handicap race was won by Marion Griffiths. Jeff Bennett picked up the randomly drawn spot prize.
A special well done to junior competitors Summer, Renee and Connor who impressed us all by completing the 6km course despite being buffeted by strong cross winds from a passing weather front.
The close racing up front also produced an unplanned swim – sorry Paul but we couldn’t let that one go since no one can ever recall you being thrown out of your boat before!
Racing was also affected by weed – we may run two courses next time, with a weed free direct route to the pylons for the seniors and an alternative course close to the shore line for the juniors.
By the way, recent measurements have shown the course to be 1.6% longer than previously thought. This doesn’t affect comparisons with previous lap times but anyone wanting a copy of old results with adjusted average speeds please drop us a line.
Race 5 - Karapiro 12 February 2012
Race 5 results and photos. Well done to Viv (handicap winner) and Paul (fastest time). Hard luck Kane, who's sprint rudder, whilst pretty sharp, was no match for the weed. He did win the spot prize though.

Race 4 - Karapiro 22 January 2012
Race 4 was held this morning over a nine lap course from the Keeley Reserve. There was a slight wind up and down the course, but not too extreme. The biggest challenges came from ski boat wakes, rowing boat wakes, and the Karapiro Scenic Cruiser, including a combination of all three near the top of lap one! Everyone made it around the pylons safely and the hounds tried in vain to chase down the ‘hare’ - new comer Shanel Cornille, but she prevailed over 2.1km to take the hare and hounds prize (Nosh Hamper). Well done Shanel!
Times were generally faster than for the windy race 2 over the same course. There were improvements in relative times for some, showing the benefits of summer holiday training. Others were racing fatigued due to a heavy pre-nationals sprint and/or coast to coast training programme. Well done to all, and once again thanks to Jo for the time keeping.
Race 2 - Keeley Reserve - 20 November 2011
Conditions were a bit windy, resulting in some withdrawals and swims, but the racing was great. The boys on ski's had fun and certainly had the advantage with the wind behind them.
Brad and Paul battled it out right to the end, Paul had the better sprint and finished just in front of Brad - very good racing and great and skills on display.
Race 1 - Karapiro Clubrooms - 23 October 2011
Our first race was held in calm conditions. It was great to be out on the lake. Steve Smith convincingly won the sprint to the hot spot by three boat lengths. Jess won the woman's hot spot sprint but would welcome some competition next month please!
Numbers were relatively modest for our first race but those who took part thought the course worked well and we all enjoyed
the social atmosphere of the multi-lap format.
